The reduction in the circulation numbers of printed weekday newspapers circulated has fallen from fairly constant circulation in the range of 60 million to 63 million from 1964 to 1992 to an estimated 28,554,137 in 2018 according to the factsheet produced by the Pew Research Center (Trends and Facts on Newspapers | State of the News Media | Pew Research Center (journalism.org)). Some of this loss was made up online, with an average monthly volume of 11,600,124 unique visitors to the top 50 newspapers’ websites. Nevertheless, looking at simple numbers and ignoring the quality of the content, newspapers are scarcely reaching two-thirds of the number of readers as they did at their peak. At the same time, the population of the United States has risen from 179 million in 1960 to an estimated 321 million, so not only are there fewer newspapers being circulated overall, that circulation is spread over 79% more potential users. The changes in book reading habits are somewhat different. Rather than replacing the physical reading experience, as is happening with newspapers, ebooks are slowly garnering a larger share of the overall market because sales of ebooks are growing at a faster rate than sales of print books. https://www.zippia.com/advice/us-book-industry-statistics/
